Part of February is create-a-thing-a-day month.

  1. I love the autobiographical details in this one…. are you feeling reflective as the big birthday approaches?

  3. I love your work and especially the sketches that you do in and around the city. Can’t wait for warmer weather to wander around with my sketchbook. Your work is an inspiration to a “late-in-life pen and watercolor wannabe.”

  4. It’s never too late, of course, however old any of us may feel.

Reflections, (like shadows) lend authority and sophistication to what might otherwise be mundane. They help to focus on the “big picture” rather than on any problematic details or unfair proportions. (This isn’t just true for drawing.)

I would love to give courses, but I haven’t yet. I’m flattered that anyone would think I’m worthy of it.

Big thanks to everyone for the nice comments.

  5. I’ve loved your work for months now, but it’s really fun to see these still lifes, which are new for you, right? This one is a favorite!

  6. there is such a rich world in this one! past, present and future! and hey — who are those cute little kids on the beach?

what a cool idea to put a mirror on the desk! makes me feel like wanting to have a desk again! and then who knows what might follow that? poetry? crafts? projects? you are an inspiration!

  7. Thanks! Yeah, still lives are sorta untapped for me. I was always kind of down on them, but I’ve been enjoying these.

And Impie, if I can inspire you to keep room to work on a desk, I will feel successful indeed ;)

I know it wouldn't be a big deal for many people, but it is for me! Besides, I didn't have a chance to make another thing that day. (The occassion for getting dolled-up was a Krinkle Bearcat show.)

I am running off now to the Lantern Festival organized by fellow thing-a-dayer Ranjit Bhatnagar.

For day 23, I went to his lantern-building workshop and built this lantern:
